Holistic Approach to Organizational Communication
Professional communication, as defined here, represents a broad,
holistic approach to the information and communication needs of
the workplace. It provides a strategic perspective of the way
information is created, managed, distributed and consumed to
achieve specific goals.
Information Development Life Cycle
Professional communication takes a life cycle approach to the
planning, design, development, distribution and maintenance of
information. It makes use of a standard, repeatable information
development process to ensure information products are:
- Accurately targeted to identified audiences
- Structured for most effective use
- Developed using proven project management techniques
- Thoroughly researched and vetted
- Efficiently made available to identified audiences
- Maintained to accurately reflect the state of subject matter
Information Management
To be effective, information products need to be stored,
controlled, and made accessible through an easy-to-use
information architecture. This means developing the requirements
for information management before a tool is selected to support
and automate the management process. Information access
must make sense to those who need to use it.
Effective information management means allowing information to
be managed by those most familiar with the content being
managed rather than by technologists with only a generic
interest in the information content and more focus on the tools
employed.
